ALL ABOUT The Digital SAT Exam
The Digital SAT assesses your student’s proficiency in Math and English with 2 sections scored on a scale of 400-1600:

The Digital SAT Reading and Writing section features passages ranging from 25 to 150 words, assessing your student’s reading comprehension and writing skills. Topics include punctuation, grammatical agreement, and the effective use of transition words. Each module challenges students to synthesize key points into concise sentences, summarize the main ideas and purposes of passages, and choose the most suitable words for sentence completion.

The Digital SAT Math section draws from key concepts in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry typically covered in high school math courses. Students will engage with topics such as linear equations, graphing, data analysis, area calculations, quadratic equations, and special right triangles.
At ThinquePrep, our SAT Math tutors provide interactive support, helping students review and master the diverse range of topics that may appear on the exam. We tailor assignments and curricula to each student’s unique needs, ensuring a comprehensive review of mathematical concepts while pinpointing areas that require focused practice.

Undecided if the ACT or SAT is right for your student? Consult the table above from mathchops with your student. The ACT Math section contains more problems involving Trigonometry, Geometry, and Algebra 2 concepts, whereas The SAT Math section prioritizes linear equations, quadratic equations, and basic algebra.

If the qualities listed below describe your student, then they may have an advantage on the SAT:

Tech-Savvy: Students comfortable using computers and digital tools may find the digital format easier to navigate, especially with features like highlighting and built-in calculators.

Adaptability: The digital SAT’s adaptive testing format adjusts the difficulty of questions of the second module according to successful input on the first module, so students who can think on their feet and adjust their strategies may excel.

Strong Test-Taking Skills: Students who are good at managing their time and stress in a digital environment often perform better, as the test can feel different from traditional formats.

Competent Reading Comprehension Skills: Since the digital SAT focuses on reading and analysis, students who are strong readers and can quickly comprehend and analyze text may do well.

Problem-Solving Skills: The math sections often demand more than just computation; they involve applying concepts to real-world scenarios. Students who are skilled at applying math in context may find success.

Familiarity with Digital Resources: Students who have practiced with digital tools and test formats are likely to feel more at ease during the actual exam.

THE DIGITAL SAT VS. THE PAPER FORMAT
How is the new Digital SAT different from the paper format?
Testing Format
Administered on a computer, allowing for interactive features, such as a built-in calculator and highlighting functions.
Paper-based, requiring students to fill in bubbles on a scantron sheet.
Length and Timing
Shorter overall, typically around 2 hours and 14 minutes, with sections that adapt in difficulty based on performance.
3 hour duration. No fixed sections and no adaptive elements.
Question Types
SAT Reading questions now fall into 4 categories: information and ideas, craft and structure, expression of ideas, and standard English conventions.
Primarily multiple-choice and grid-in questions.
Sections
Reading and Writing section combined into one with shorter passages and an integrated approach to skills.
Comprised of separate sections for Reading and Writing. Math divided into calculator and no-calculator sections.
Scoring
Uses a different scoring scale, and the adaptive nature can lead to varied scoring based on question difficulty.
Scoring based on a fixed-scale,
non-adaptive.
Test Experience
User friendly digital interface that allows students to mark questions for review and easily keep time.
Traditional testing environment at a high school, solely administered on paper.
3 SECRETS ABOUT THE SAT/ACT
The SAT and ACT tests DON’T test intelligence or even how good of a student you are. They test how good you are at taking the SAT and ACT tests.
You actually may not have learned all the material on the SAT and ACT in school. Specialized preparation is the best way to ensure you master all the concepts.
There are no “secret hacks” to getting a high score. The only strategy that really works is taking time to understand and correct your mistakes.
